Shaimaa earned her PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University in the summer of 2020. Prior to that, she received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Mansoura University in Egypt. Her PhD research focused on unconventional cavity designs using exceptional light states. She investigated applications such as coherent light sources at the nano- and micro-scales, sensors, and optical limiters. At QPL, Shaimaa wants to leverage her expertise in the quantum domain. She is interested in scalable integrated quantum photonic circuits. Shaimaa is sponsored by the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) through the Elings Prize Postdoctoral Fellowship in Science. When not working, she enjoys reading, baking, biking, and spending time with family.
Recommended Reading: One of my favorite textbooks is an Introduction to Electrodynamics by David J. Griffiths. The book is comprehensive, explains concepts in an intuitive way, and in general very insightful.
