Open Postdoc Positions: Nonlinear Integrated Quantum Photonics

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Quantum Photonics Lab at UCSB is hiring postdoctoral scholars to join the team. The successful candidates will develop integrated photonic devices for multi-photon entanglement and squeezing for applications in quantum computing, networking, and sensing. The research project will involve III-V heterogeneous integrated photonic device fabrication in UCSB’s 12,000 ft2 class-100 cleanroom, integrated photonic device modeling and design, experimental characterization, and quantum measurements/demonstrations. Successful candidates will work with a team of graduate students, travel to conferences, work closely with a collaborative multi-institute team, and participate in program reviews.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Location: Santa Barbara, California

Anticipated Start: Review of applications will begin April 1, 2024, with an anticipated start date between July 1 and September 1. The position will remain open until filled.

Position Duration: Initial appointment is for 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Salary Range: An estimated salary for this position is $80-85K. Salaries that are higher than the published UC system-wide salary scales at the designated experience level are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a PhD in engineering, materials science, physics, optics & photonics, or a related field before the start date. Applicants should have excellent project management skills, including contributing to collaborative research. Additional desired qualifications include:

Position 1:

  • Experience in integrated photonic device fabrication techniques and process development
  • Experience in nonlinear optics 
  • Modeling, design, and layout of photonic components (e.g. Lumerical and GDS factory)

Position 2:

  • Experience in quantum measurements and/or integrated photonic device testing
  • Experience in nonlinear optics
  • Modeling, design, and layout of photonic components (e.g. Lumerical and GDS factory)
